Birmingham-based Acclaimed Content hunt for West Midlands digital creatives

Channel 4’s Digital Commissioning team and Create Central have teamed up to find some hidden, surprising, and fresh new digital talent from the West Midlands.

Birmingham-based indie Acclaimed Content has been selected by Channel 4 to run the initiative and is seeking digital talent in the West Midlands to develop fresh content ideas and out of this world formats with publishing potential.

West Midlands-based new talent on and off screen, filmmakers, producer/directors, new developers and idea fiends are encouraged to submit their ideas to Acclaimed, who will select a handful to work with to take their ideas forward to the Channel 4 Digital Commissioning team for consideration. Channel 4 will then select a small number of projects to progress to funded development, which could include a taster tape, creative decks, full treatment, pilot or even a commission.

Following on from the linear television development scheme previously launched with More4, this is the latest initiative to emerge from the collaboration between Channel 4 and Create Central that was announced in April 2022.

Commenting on the initiative Laura Marks, Senior Digital Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, said: “We’re always on the hunt for talent across the UK, and teaming up with Create Central and Acclaimed will allow us to supercharge our efforts in the West Midlands where we know there is a lot of untapped talent.”

Acclaimed Content’s Anton Inwood said: “At Acclaimed Content we pride ourselves on championing local and up-coming talent. It’s a privilege to be overseeing the West Midlands initiative, alongside Channel 4 and Create Central. We're excited to be working with emerging talent across the region.”

Ed Shedd, Create Central Chair, said: “As one of the youngest, most diverse regions in Europe, the West Midlands has a wealth of untapped talent and at Create Central we are focused on creating opportunities for that talent to break through. As well as funding initiatives aimed at more traditional TV and film formats we also want to tap into the innovative spirit of our region’s digital creatives, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Channel 4 on this scheme.”
